Acupuncture treatment may mitigate hot flushes ad other symptoms during the menopausal transition, report Brazilian clinicians. In a crossover trial, 100 women were randomly divided into two groups. During the first six months of treatment, women in one group received verum acupuncture while another group were given sham acupuncture. Crossover was then applied, with both groups swapping over the treatment type for a further six months. Based on the results, the authors conclude that acupuncture treatment may mitigate hot flashes and other climacteric symptoms during the menopausal transition.
